New 7 Wonders of the
World
(2001-2007) was an initiative started in 2001 to choose Wonders of the World from a selection of
200 existing monuments. The popularity poll was led by Canadian-Swiss Bernard
Weber and organized by the New7Wonders Foundation based in Zurich, Switzerland,
with winners announced on July 7, 2007 in Lisbon. The New
7 Wonders Foundation is regulated by the Swiss Federal
Foundation Authority as all nationwide-active foundations in
Switzerland are.
Taj Mahal
Taj Mahal is a white marble mausoleum
located in Agra,
Uttar Pradesh,
India.
It was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan
in memory of his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal.
Chichen Itza
Chichen Itza was a large pre-Columbian
city
built by the Maya civilization. The archaeological site is located in the municipality of Tinum, in the Mexican state of Yucatán.
Cristo Redentor
Cristo Redentor is a statue of Jesus of Nazareth in Rio de
Janeiro, Brazil; considered the largest Art Deco
statue in the world and the 5th largest statue of Jesus in the world.
Colosseum
The Colosseum, or the Coliseum, originally the Flavian Amphitheatre is an elliptical amphitheatre
in the centre of the city of Rome, Italy, the largest ever built in the Roman Empire,
built of concrete and stone.
Great Wall of China
The Great Wall of China is a series of fortifications
made of stone, brick, tamped earth, wood, and other materials,
generally built along an east-to-west line across the historical northern
borders of China
in part to protect the Chinese Empire or its prototypical states against
intrusions by various nomadic groups or military incursions by various warlike
peoples or forces. Several walls were being built as early as the 7th century
BC, these later joined together and made
bigger, stronger, and unified are now collectively referred to as the Great
Wall.

Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu is a pre-Columbian
15th-century Inca site located 2,430 metres (7,970 ft) above sea level. Machu Picchu is located
in the Cusco Region
of Peru, South America. It is situated on a mountain
ridge above the Urubamba Valley in Peru, which is 80
kilometres (50 mi) northwest of Cusco and through which
the Urubamba
River flows.
Petra
Petra is a historical
and archaeological
city in the Jordanian
governorate of Ma'an that is famous for its rock-cut architecture and water conduit
system. Established possibly as early as 312 BC as the capital city of the Nabataeans,
it is a symbol of Jordan as well as its most visited tourist attraction. It
lies on the slope of Mount Hor, in a basin among the mountains which form the
eastern flank of Arabah
(Wadi Araba), the large valley running from the Dead Sea
to the Gulf of Aqaba. Petra has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985.
